Not only did we make “people” friends on our tour, we made some “furry” friends too. Robin is a real animal lover, and she couldn’t resist these cute little Italians. We saw loose animals everywhere, even at the site of ancient ruins. Rarely did we see a dog that was leashed, and we never saw one misbehave.

The photo on the left was taken in Matera and is my favorite animal shot. To me, it says “Italy.” It’s the perfect juxtaposition of hard and soft, old and new.
Not only did we see animals everywhere, we also saw religious icons throughout Italy. They were on the sides of buildings, nestled into stone walls, even on the walls in hotels and restaurants.
